Honoring Dr. Paul Pierce, III
Dr. Paul Williamson "Bill" Pierce, III was a leader in the field of internal medicine in Mississippi. Medicine was his true calling, changing careers in 1968 to enroll in medical school at UMMC.
Prior to his medical career, Dr. Pierce earned his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University and then served two years in the United States Army as a Heavy Equipment Construction Company Commander in Korea. He later served as Battalion Adjutant in an Engineer Construction Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
In 1975, Dr. Pierce completed his residency at UMMC and began practicing at Vicksburg Medical Center. Dr. Pierce served the Vicksburg community as a trusted physician for over forty-six years. He is credited with being the founding member of the Medical Associates for Vicksburg. His proudest accomplishment in life was practicing medicine alongside his sons Dr. Paul Pierce IV and Dr. Sam Pierce.
Supporting the Dr. Paul W. Pierce, III Internal Medicine Endowment Supports Mississippi
To support the division of internal medicine and the patients it serves, Dr. Pierce’s wife, Patricia Hand Pierce, established an endowment at UMMC in 2020. The Dr. Paul W. Pierce, III Internal Medicine Endowment will honor in perpetuity the contributions of Dr. Pierce, to the field of Internal Medicine and provide ongoing financial support to the internal medicine department.
Funding this endowment ensures that the UMMC Division of Internal Medicine can attract and retain the best academic leaders in the field of internal medicine, and thus provide our patients with unmatched care. We hope you will consider honoring Dr. Pierce’s legacy by making a gift to the endowment.
